Can You Play Black Ops 2 on PS5?(A nostalgic rush)

With the announcement of Modern Warfare 2 (2022), Call of Duty fans are nostalgic and want to play Black Ops 2 on their PS5. I am a huge fan of the Call of Duty franchise, and I played every game. Some titles are not available on the PS5 or in the backwards compatibility program, and unfortunately, Black Ops 2 is one of them.

You cannot play Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 on PS5. The game launched back on November 12, 2012 on PS3, and unfortunately, games that are released on PS3 are not backwards compatible. This means that fans of the franchise can’t access Call of Duty 2 on PS5. The only way to play Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 on a PlayStation console is to dust off the old PS3 and have a physical copy of the game.

While it’s disheartening that Black Ops 2 is not available on PS5, there still is hope that a PS Now release could make the game run on next-gen consoles.

Can You Play Black Ops 2 on PS5?

Sadly, the answer is now. You can’t play Black Ops 2 on PS5, and the reason behind this is that the game is not available via backwards compatibility. The only PS3 backwards compatible games are available via PS Now. This works because PS Now allows PS5 to stream the games and, therefore, doesn’t require a physical copy of it in order to run. If you want to learn more about how PS3 games work on PS5, you should be pleased to know that I wrote a guide that explains it all in more detail.

On the bright side of things, Call of Duty’s highly anticipated Modern Warfare 2 (2022) is releasing in just a couple of weeks. In fact, the developers have released a new gameplay YouTube video that you can check it out by clicking here. I am sure that Modern Warfare 2 (2022) will be fun enough to “itch the scratch” of playing a realistic Call of Duty title.

Is Black Ops 2 Backwards Compatible on PS5?

Black Ops 2 is not backwards compatible on PS5. It’s been a long time since the game launched, and it’s only available in the physical disc form. If Sony does decide to launch the game on PS Now, then it becomes possible for Black Ops 2 to be available on PS5 with the backwards compatibility program.
