Even though Chrome is the world’s most popular browser, it still has a bad reputation when it comes to how many resources it uses to run. The internet is filled with memes that make fun of Chrome for being a RAM and battery hog. Fortunately, the developers who are in charge of the browser are aware of the problems and they are doing their best to find solutions. In fact, a new update has been released for Chrome that focuses on extending the battery life of laptops by up to 2 hours.
Chrome Update
As previously noted, Chrome uses lots of battery power in order to run. This makes it difficult for laptop users to surf the web when they don’t have a charger around. On the bright side of things, the Chrome 86 version of the browser is now introducing a new update that shuts down all unnecessary JavaScript timers and trackers when a tab is left in the background.
Thanks to the new feature, laptop users will see major gains in the battery life of their devices. For example, a test made by the folks at TheWindowsClub showed that with the new update, Chrome adds 36 of extra runtime. This may not be too much, but it’s still better than nothing. Let’s hope that the developers can improve the performances of the browser even further.
Major Battery Improvements
Considering that Chrome 86 is going to significantly improve the battery life of laptops, we are advising everyone to download the update as soon as possible. The Chrome 86 build is available on all desktop and mobile platforms. Not just that, but the update is rolling out via OTA (over the air) channels, and therefore, Chrome users will receive the update automatically.
