How to Install and Use The Sims Resource
#1 Preparation
Before downloading and installing custom files for The Sims 4, your first step needs to be making sure that you have the resource files required to process the mods. Follow the next steps on your computer or laptop: Finder – Documents – Electronic Arts – The Sims 4 (or whatever version of the game you own) – Mods. You will find a file called “Resource.cfg”. If the file is not there, you can always download it and copy it into the folder.
#2 Find Resources
There are many websites where you can find custom mods for The Sims and you can access them all by Googling “The Sims Resource”. After finding a website that looks trustworthy, your next step is to search for mods that you like.
#3 Download the Resources/Mods
Now that you have selected your favorite mods, the next step is to download them on your PC. We should mention that you need to read the description of a resource/mod before downloading it. The reason behind this is that some resources do not include the mesh, which is the base item required to make the mod work. You will also find installation suggestions from the resource’s creator.
#4 Transfer the Resources into the Special Mods Folder
After the files finish downloading, they will be available in your Downloads folder. They are more than likely available in a zip file and you need to use a third-party program to open them such as Winrar or Unzip. These programs are free and safe to use. Unzip the files and move them to the Mods folder in the Electronics Arts folder (shown in the first step).
#5 Check the Resource In-Game
Open the game and check to see if a screen with the new custom resource pops up. The pop-up screen will inform you that a new mod has been downloaded and that it’s playable. You also need to make sure that custom content is turned on. This can be done in the Game Options – Other menu section.
#6 Play the Game
