Why You are Losing Interest in Video Games (Enjoy Gaming Again)

Halo Infinite

Did you use to spend hours on end playing videos games but now feel like you lost all interest in gaming? This might come as a surprise, but losing interest in video games happens to more people than you might think. There are many factors that cause this to happen and today I’ll show you how to enjoy gaming again.

People lose interest in video game because they have fallen out of love with this hobby. In general, most people will stop playing video games as much when they get older. The reason behind this is that life gets more complicated and with full-time jobs, you will no longer have the time or feel like you want to play long 8-hour gaming sessions at the end of the day. There are some other factors that can lead you to lose interest in gaming such as the overall quality of games dropping lately, feeling like you should spend time doing something more rewarding, or feeling the need for social interactions.

While it might feel bad losing interest for your childhood hobby, there is some good news. You can get back to enjoying gaming once again if you know how to do it.

Why Do I Lose Interest in Video Games?

Has playing video games been your favorite past-time activity for the last couple of years but now you are feeling bored with every game you try? Don’t worry, this happens to everyone as they grow older or bored with gaming. No matter what hobby you might have, you will get bored with it and lose all interest. Gaming is not an exception to that rule, especially since most people tend to go on long gaming sessions that take up all their day.

As you grow older, you will start losing interest in video games and there is no way around this. The reason this happens to people is because you will not have enough time to game after going to college or a full-time job. That’s not all. Chances are that you will not feel like spending 5 hours playing a competitive game like League of Legends or CS:GO after working all day long. You will get angry when teammates don’t play good and you lose a match.

From my personal experience, I noticed that I will also lose interest in playing solo games like RPGs (Skyrim, Red Dead Redemption 2 or Spider-Man) when I have lots of things going on in my life. This was super annoying for me because I couldn’t find any other sort of activity to relax but fortunately, it was easy for me to turn this around. I just had to take a break or find a new hobby for a little while.

How Do I Start Enjoying Video Games Again?

There’s nothing more annoying than coming home from a long day at work and wanting to relax on the PC or console only to feel like you can’t find an interesting game to play. This is the same feeling like the one you get from scrolling on Netflix’s “Most Popular Shows” list and not finding anything good. Luckily, getting to enjoy video games again is not that complicated. You just have to know what to do. Here is where I come in to help. I think it’s been at least 3 times that I lost interest in gaming (and believe me, I am a hardcore gamer), and all 3 times I managed to get back into the groove. Here is how I did it:

  • Try a new style of game

If you always play arcade shooters like Call of Duty or competitive games such as League of Legends, you might want to change the style of games you are playing. It always works wonders for my gaming mood when I try something new. I highly recommend choosing a single-player experience like Pillars of Eternity, for example.

Steam Sales are the best time to get new games. You will find deals that offer up to -90% discounts!

  • Get a new hobby

One of the best ways to remind yourself just how fun gaming used to be is to start a new hobby. If you spend your time doing something else than you usually do, you will eventually start missing video games and want to give them a try again. I personally sports and spending some time playing basketball or football is a great way to take a break from gaming.

Final Words

Even though losing interest in video games is something that happens to all of us as we grow older, you can always get back in the groove of things. You just have to take it slowly and not force yourself to play games. My advice is to try a new style of game or to take a break. Your love for gaming will not fade away!
